Maria Almeida Silva has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Minho in Braga and a Master's degree in Mathematics and Applications (Probability and Statistics) from IST in Lisbon. Maria did her PhD in Statistics and Stochastic Processes at IST in Lisbon. She worked for 5 years at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) in Lisbon. Maria does research in data analysis and time series analysis, applied to different contexts, with a special emphasis on helping to manage water resources more efficiently. She has published articles on the propagation of uncertainty, including in time series, the detection of anomalous events, time series clustering and classification, and random sampling.
