Tiago Candeias is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Computer Engineering degree at ISMAT. He is also a collaborator researcher at the COPELABS, University Lusófona. He holds a PhD in Electronic and Computer Engineering (2009) and a Degree in Computer Systems and Engineering (2002), both from the University of Algarve.

With over fifteen years of academic experience, he has previously served as an Invited Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona and the University of Algarve. He has also worked as a research assistant in an FCT-funded project and has industry experience in technology-driven roles. In recent years, he has collaborated in the development of applied research projects, in partnership with public entities, for example in the Smart City project of the Lagoa City Council and in the Barturs project of the KIPT CoLab.

He actively participates in research projects and collaborations in Portugal and Brazil. His research interests focus on Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Engineering, and Computer Vision, with applications in tourism, cadastral information systems, image recognition, and document analysis. He has supervised more than twenty undergraduate dissertations, authored of scientific papers and a book chapter, and received two entrepreneurship awards. His work bridges engineering and computational sciences, leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and data visualization techniques to solve complex problems.
